Well it wasn't as bad as i thought - i had a really nice instructor and dmt assist and the two girls i was filming were lovely!!

It was still pretty scary editing underwater video it and thinking - wow - someone is going to buy this. I sold one which i was so happy about and it was great because they left too soon for me to show them the underwater video so i just had to send it to them!!! great stuff!!! practice makes perfect so i guess i have a lot of Koh Tao underwater videography jobs ahead of me!!!

Ayla shooting underwater video

I can't believe my two weeks of training are almost over!!

I am supposed to film my first open water video tomorrow - obviously, I am fighting tooth and nail against the idea! eek!!

Training has been great - days of filming fish, coral and DMTs. Koh Tao DMTs [Divemaster Trainees] are "interesting" to film - some are great and some are just not very cooperative... And the teasing you get from them is simply incredible!!!

The underwater video editing is wonderful - a really cool program that you get to mess with while setting all your wobbly clips to music!!

All in all, a REALLY good time and I just hope tomorrow goes well!!!

Mungo capturing some underwater video footage

So far after filming and editing 3 DVD's out at different dive sites around Koh Tao, I am starting to get the hang of the video editing software and the various shots to use underwater.

Over the next few days I hope to complete my shadow day with Amber which involves watching her film and edit the underwater video footage. After I've completed the shadow day I will produce and show my first DVD to customers. Lets hope they like it!

We are super busy at the moment. But we have had the time to get two new underwater videography trainees up and running.

Nassos gets to grips with the underwater camera and housing

I took Nassos out this afternoon for his first training dives. He's going to be doing his 2 week underwater videography training course and then an internship. He was very steady with the camera and housing so I'm confident he's going to be easy to teach and a good videographer by the end of the course.

Underwater videograhy trainee Ayla

Yesterday, a very jet-lagged Mungo (yes, that’s his real name!), just off the plane from Aberdeen, Scotland and an enthusiastic Ayla, on her gap year break from school began their underwater video training with me at Japanese Gardens and Twins.

The weather on Koh Tao was and remains amazing and the visibility in the water is as good as it gets! After some practice on land and on the boat we went down to film the beautiful coral in Japanese Garden.

We were even lucky enough to get a shot of one of the black puffer fish sitting under a massive table coral. Ayla quickly got the hang of it and was filming like an old hand. She has great eye for composition. Mungo, still training to re-set his body clock need a half a dive just to wake up but eventually came around and got some great shots of one of Koh Tao’s local white-eyed moray eels.

For his first time, he impressed with his steady work with camera in hand!

Today, we reviewed the footage and started with the introduction to the video editing suite. Ayla quickly managed make a very nice short movie with her footage. She shows some real creative instincts and seems to have a knack for making her movie look funky and happy. Mungo’s dive skills and camera work show some real potential and he’s embracing the challenge of learning the editing software. Watch this space for the further adventures of Mungo and Ayla
