Yesterday, a very jet-lagged Mungo (yes, that’s his real name!), just off the plane from Aberdeen, Scotland and an enthusiastic Ayla, on her gap year break from school began their underwater video training with me at Japanese Gardens and Twins.

The weather on Koh Tao was and remains amazing and the visibility in the water is as good as it gets! After some practice on land and on the boat we went down to film the beautiful coral in Japanese Garden.

We were even lucky enough to get a shot of one of the black puffer fish sitting under a massive table coral. Ayla quickly got the hang of it and was filming like an old hand. She has great eye for composition. Mungo, still training to re-set his body clock need a half a dive just to wake up but eventually came around and got some great shots of one of Koh Tao’s local white-eyed moray eels.

For his first time, he impressed with his steady work with camera in hand!

Today, we reviewed the footage and started with the introduction to the video editing suite. Ayla quickly managed make a very nice short movie with her footage. She shows some real creative instincts and seems to have a knack for making her movie look funky and happy. Mungo’s dive skills and camera work show some real potential and he’s embracing the challenge of learning the editing software. Watch this space for the further adventures of Mungo and Ayla
